Restaurant Review

Today, I would like to share a restaurant that I went last week.

It is called ソムオー(Somuo) in Shinokubo, Shinjuku.

It's only a minute walk from Shinokubo Station, so it is very easy to find.

This is the picture of the restaurant.
Shinokubo is often known as a Korean town, and the right side of the Shinokubo station has many Korean stores and restaurants.

However, the left side of Shinokubo station has many ethnic (Asian) restaurants, supermarkets, and stores.
So if you have time, I recommend you explore there!

Now, let me get back to the restaurant review.

We went there around 2pm, and it wasn't that crowded.

I forgot to take pictures of the menu, but I found some information on Tabelog, so I will share some information here.

Lunch set comes with salad, soup dessert, and drink.

For your drink, you can chose from 10 drinks.

I had lychee juice, which was good. We also tried mango juice, but it was too thick/ condensed for us.
If you really like mango, you might like it.

It was very nice that in addition to cold juice and tea, they had warm tea,
so it was relaxing to have a cup of warm tea after the meal.

Something that I find unique about Thai restaurants is that they have these four condiments on the table.
They have fish sauce(ナンプラー), Sugar, vinegar with chili pepper, and powdered chili pepper.

It was interesting that customers could arrange their food with
salty/umami, sweet, sour, and spicy condiments.

For our meal, I had a Pad See Ew set (タイ風太麺焼きそばセット)and
my mom had Saamrot set(セームロットセット).

So, my Pad See Ew set, came with Pad See Ew, a drink, salad, soup, and a dessert with coconut milk and something similar to tapioca.

The meals came within 7 mins after we ordered.

The price was 840, and I think it was cheaper for this quality and quantity.

Pad See Ew tasted nice, and I was very happy that I could finally eat it.
Soup tasted much different from soups that Japanese restaurants have, but I liked it.

The dessert didn't taste like what I had imagined, and I couldn't finish it.
Tapioca thing was too soft, but maybe it doesn't have the same texture as tapioca that we are familiar with.

Saamrot set(セームロットセット) came with many dishes as well.

It was 900 yen.

My mom likes Green curry and she seems to like it.
I don't like Green curry but I tried it anyways, and I thought it tasted better than the one I used to eat.

It was nice that it had this little spring roll, and it was refreshing.

This little omlet with sour/spicy sauce was good too.
It went well with rice.

Overall, I liked this restaurant.

I liked the food, and since I could hear workers speaking in Thai,  I felt like I was in Thailand,
rather than eating at Thai restaurant in Japan.

I would give them 8/10.
I didn't find anything that really amazed me, but I think they serve food at a relatively cheap price for good quality.

Maybe, cleaner trays would make things look cleaner.

If you have a chance to go to Shinokubo, I recommend you go there!
And if you do, leave some comments below!

See you next time!
